Washington Post Comments Not Loading
I’m not able to view any of the comments when at the Washington Post website. I’m running Win7 and am using the latest version of Firefox. I typically use private browsing when online, but the same issue appears both when I’m using private browsing or not. The problem also persists regardless of whether I have Ad Block Plus turned on or off. This seems to have become an issue after the Firefox upgrade to “quantum,” although I’m not sure about that. I run Firefox at work as well, running Win10 and private browsing with no consistent problems viewing comments. I’ve tried using a different browser (which I really don’t want to do) and have successfully been able to view the comments.

The site owner may have changed settings related to the cache plugin if this happens. If you encounter this issue, you can only contact the site owner. The native WordPress comment system will appear if there has been a change in the master file or a conflict with Disqus. If you have that site and the master file has been changed since the update, Disqus won’t load.
Disqus.com is one of the popular third party commenting system that can be embedded on your website. It is easy to integrate and eliminates the burden of customizing default comment-system and dealing with spams. A lot of popular sites including CNN, Bloomberg, The Next Web, and now TwistBlogg are using disqus. There are two common issues faced by many bloggers’ when implementing Disqus comment system: Firstly the comments made on desktop version are not visible in mobile version and vice versa. That means disqus comments are not showing properly in mobile and desktop. Secondly, the website performance reduces drastically because a huge file ( ~2.49MB ) needs to be loaded.
Why doesn’t the Disqus comments window load or show up?

The following is usually what happens when Disqus comments don’t load:
- It is not possible to find the Disqus widget anywhere on the site.
- Some articles lack Disqus’ widget.
- There are no comments on the widget, but it appears throughout the site.
- All posts display the widget, but not all contain comments.
It’s understandable that Disqus would not work flawlessly at times, but we wrote this guide to cover the most common mishaps.
You’ll need to follow the steps below to make Disqus work. Some steps may seem obvious, but you’d be wasting your time if you don’t.
If you are using a spreadsheet program that allows you to create CSV files, such as Microsoft Excel, you should already have setup Disqus, be logged into your WordPress admin area, and be logged into your Disqus account.

Here’s how to fix the Disqus comment box not loading or displaying
Clear your browser cache
Using the cache helps files load faster. If Disqus comments don’t load properly, or don’t load at all, then files in the Disqus context have been modified. Technically, this should occur automatically, but things still happen.
WordPress Comments Not Showing
The comment section can also be found in the Pages menu under the Pages tab. Select the page you want comments enabled on and edit it. On your edit page, go to the Page Settings section (you’ll find it at the top right of your page). Go to the Discussion section under Page Settings, then to Allow Comments under More Options.
This site and Disqus can be cleared from cookies if that doesn’t work. You may need to download new files after clearing the cookies. Here is how to clear the cache in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome.
InPrivate or Incognito mode
All browsers offer Private and Incognito modes, so consider trying them out to see if changes have actually been applied.
Take a look at these steps for getting in
- InPrivate mode.
- An incognito browser
- A private browsing experience with Firefox
Use a different browser
If the site only loads on mobile but not on desktop, you know what you need to fix. If the problem occurs on all browsers and devices, you know what needs to be fixed.

Secondly, you need to check to see if the problem is browser-specific. The problem may persist in only one browser, so you should have at least two or three browsers for these situations. Try opening the website in a different browser and see if it persists. If it only occurs in one browser, go ahead with step 1, otherwise skip it.
Safe mode (disabling plugins, extensions, and add-ons)
In some cases, adding software might interfere with downloads. These problems arise when add-ons restrict file loading or use the same element as the commenting system.
It’s important to use safe mode. A user can use this mode in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge as it disables all plugins, extensions, and add-ons, and the browser loads like vanilla. Edge is based on Chrome and works the same way as it does.
Please contact the site owner if you are not able to resolve the issue of Disqus comments not loading.
