To use SFC, launch it

  1. Type cmd in the search bar, then right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Changing the indexing settings

  1. If you wish to open the Indexing Options window, enter the indexing options in the search bar.
  2. You can open the Indexed Locations by clicking Edit on the bottom of the window that opens.
  3. If it restarts every time, click Show all locations and disable large locations (for example, disable the local C: drive).
  4. Your changes will be saved when you click OK.
  5. Ensure SearchProtocolHost.exe continues to use a lot of CPU after rebooting.
