Last year, Windows 10 introduced a new Mobile Hotspot setting that allows you to share your PC or laptop’s Internet connection with other devices. It’s a really useful feature that allows you to browse the Internet even when you’re on the go.

It may not work even though you can enable it directly in Settings by checking the “Share Internet connection with other devices” option. Activating this feature, for example, might return an error message stating “We cannot create a mobile hotspot.” However, there is a way to fix it. Let’s check it out.

What causes the “Cannot set up a mobile hotspot” message?

  • Network Sharing Disabled: If this error occurs when you try to activate the hotspot from your home network, you can assume that the problem occurs because the network sharing for your current network adapter is disabled.
  • Hosted Networking is disabled: In some cases, this problem can occur because Hosted Networking is disabled on your computer.
  • Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter is disabled: According to some affected users, this problem can occur in situations where the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct virtual adapter is disabled in Device Manager.
  • Faulty network adapter: Another possible problem is a fairly common fault that affects the network adapter responsible for creating hotspot networks.
