How to solve the Evernote synchronization problem

It is possible that Evernote won’t sync with other devices if you don’t see a message about sync, or you won’t even see the message.

Evernote and OneNote both offer the ability to organize notes across multiple platforms, sync them, and create new ones. There are plenty of note-taking and organizational features in both applications, and they are cross-platform as well. You can use both apps in the browser. They are available for Windows, MacOS, iOS, iPad, and Android. What factors should you consider when making your decision between the two apps?

It is possible for notes to go to the Trash when they are created and deleted in Evernote before they sync. You receive an Evernote error message when trying to create new notes when deleted files try to sync. Additionally, the error can appear intermittently and can be extremely annoying. You can resolve this issue by deleting the files that you have deleted from the “Trash” and are now in there.

Check that there are no Evernote servers

Make sure that you have not exceeded the maximum number of devices

Reinstalling the Evernote app on your devices

It can sometimes be helpful to uninstall the app and then reinstall it from the official website, as this will delete any problematic files and make sure it can create new configurations with a fresh start.

Windows users need to reinstall Evernote

1. The Settings app should be launched.
2. Select “Applications”.
3. Select Uninstall under Evernote by scrolling down.
4. The Evernote website requires a new download of the app.

Your Mac needs to be reinstalled with Evernote

1. The dock will open the launchpad.
2. The Evernote app’s X icon should appear when you hold down the Option key.
3. The app will be uninstalled once you click the Uninstall button.
4. The Evernote Mac App Store can be accessed from the Apple menu, as well as from the Mac App Store.

Your iPhone needs to be reinstalled with Evernote

1. On the Home screen, tap and hold Evernote.
2. The Evernote app will display an X icon.
3. The app can be removed by selecting Uninstall.
4. Your iPhone will need to be reinstalled from the App Store.

The Android version of Evernote should be reinstalled

1. Simply tap the Uninstall button in Settings – > Apps and Notifications – > Evernote.
2. To confirm, tap OK.
3. Download the Evernote app from the Android Play Store.

Empty the Evernote garbage then sync

When the Evernote app is unable to sync, notes can be found in its trash bin. If there are notes in there, please delete them before trying to sync the app again.

Here is what you need to do in Evernote Desktop:

1. On the left sidebar, select “Recycle Bin.”.
2. Choosing Empty Trash from the right-click menu will do the trick.
3. For syncing your notes, go to the File menu and choose Sync.

Mobile app for Evernote:

1. Select Trash from the three horizontal lines at the upper-left of the screen.
2. The trash can can be emptied by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner.
3. The notes will begin syncing once you tap these three dots at the top right corner.

Check the activity log and delete any problem notes

It’s possible to use the Evernote app to locate the cause of the sync disconnect issue you’re experiencing on your devices. Evernote’s app logs every action that takes place inside the app, including error messages.

1. On your desktop, launch Evernote.
2. The Activity Log feature can be accessed by clicking the Help menu at the top of the screen.
3. Here are the words “error” and “exception” in a box.
4. Look for the note title next to one of these words.
5. You may have problems syncing your application if you encounter this note.

4. Try syncing Evernote.
5. The sync will not happen automatically, so manually sync it.
