Changing my name on the website and syncing my iPad worked! I am wondering how their encryption works if you delete/rename Preferences.dat or reinstall OneNote/Office. It is possible to encrypt sections of notebooks, but I am not sure how it works.

The OneNote sync process can sometimes be nerve wracking due to the fact that OneNote requires a password to sync a laptop. There are also some specific error codes that may accompany this alert, like 0x803D0005, 0xE4010647, 0x52E, or 0xE0000024.

In Windows 10/8.1 or higher, OneDrive integrates with the notebook, making it easier to access the notebook from anywhere. This is similar to OneNote syncing with a Microsoft account. When OneNote tries to sync the laptop after OneDrive has already synced it, it fails due to the following error message: OneNote requires a password to sync. Here’s how to enter the password.

OneNote has default notebooks for every team. If you don’t already have a notebook for your team to collaborate on, we recommend using the preexisting one if you don’t have one that you want to use. Your team members can organize their work, store ideas and best practices, organize campaigns, etc.

What caused the “OneNote Needs a Password to Sync this Notebook” error?

What caused the "OneNote requires a password to sync this notebook" error?

OneNote account error: It turns out that there is a common error that causes this behavior. It usually happens when a user tries to open the OneNote app after a major update without rebooting the computer. In this case, you can easily fix the problem by logging into the app again with your OneNote account.

Can’t tell how annoyed and frustrated I am. I’m logged into OneNote for Windows 10 with my school account but instead of syncing like a normal piece of software, the message “Saved offline (please sign in)” keeps showing up even though I’m clearly already signed in and my name is showing up at the top right hand corner. The error code is E0000024 followed by 5 alphanumeric characters that seem to be different every time. Googling it gives very little resources and solutions, all of which I’ve tried.

Windows Credentials storing corrupted data: It is also possible that the problem goes beyond OneNote and is actually caused by a more serious problem of corrupted system files caused by corrupted data stored in the Windows Credential Manager utility. In this case, you can solve the problem by opening the Credential Manager in Control Panel and deleting all credentials associated with Office.

SharePoint URL is not being added to the list of trusted sites: If this issue occurs with OneNote notebooks hosted by SharePoint, it is most likely due to the fact that the application is forced to request a SharePoint connection every time the user launches the application. If this scenario applies, you can solve the problem by adding the SharePoint URL to the list of trusted sites in the Internet options.

VPN or proxy server: As dozens of affected users confirm, this problem can occur in situations where the user uses a proxy server or a private Internet connection. This causes problems with many Office applications, including OneNote, because the Windows authentication client may not complete the process. In this case, you can solve the problem by disabling or removing the proxy server while OneNote is open.

It is only possible to fix this problem by adding the Sharepoint URL to the Trusted Sites list in Internet Options. By doing so, the machine won’t be prompted repeatedly for a password, and the ‘Onenote needs a password to sync this notebook’ error won’t appear.

Corrupt Office installation: In rare cases, this problem can also occur due to a corrupt file in the Office installation folder. This problem can be resolved by self-repairing through programs and features.
