A high bandwidth, low latency, high quality of service, and durability are features of Intel Optane SSDs. A new Windows 10 update was announced last week for millions of Windows 10 users around the world. It offers fast startup times, fast application loading times, and seamless multitasking. “Intel Optane Memory Pinning Error” occurred when installing this update on Windows 10 computers with Intel Optane SSDs.

Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions

If you open up an application on your computer and encounter an Intel Optane Memory Pinning error, it occurs. A new extension to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver called the Intel Optane Pinning Service Extension is included in the latest drivers. Microsoft deployed the latest Intel drivers on the systems after a Windows update affected the majority of users.

Intel and Microsoft are aware of this problem and are working on a solution. In the meantime, you can fix it yourself by following the instructions prepared by Techquack.

Iastorafsservice

Description: IaStorAfsService.exe is not essential for the Windows OS and causes relatively few problems. The file iaStorAfsService.exe is located in a not unambiguous folder.

It is a service (iaStorAfsService) running invisible in the background. The service enables amazing system performance and responsiveness by accelerating frequently used files.

The iaStorAfsService.exe file is not a Windows system file. The file has a digital signature. The file is a Microsoft signed file. The program has no visible window.
Therefore the technical security rating is 6% dangerous.

This error occurred following the update to Windows, i.e. version 1903. In this update, the latest Intel drivers could be installed on systems equipped with the Intel Optane Pinning Service Extension. Because some systems do not have the caching drivers supported by Intel Optane Memory, the error message is caused by the Intel Optane Memory application installed on your system.

You may encounter an Intel Optane memory pinning error after Windows 10 updates because drivers are required in order to use the Intel Optane Pinning Explorer extensions. It occurs whenever there are problems with the drivers, which causes the Intel Optane memory pin error unable to load the dll.

In order to resolve this issue, you can uninstall the Intel Optane Memory Application or update your Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.

Optane Icon Overlay

The icon file looks like it’s part of the Optane app, overlaying folders you choose to pin to the Optane module for quick access. I’m not sure if you have an Optane module, or if you’ve replaced it with an SSD.

How to fix Intel Optane memory pinning error in Windows 10

After identifying the problem, we need to ensure that the Optane Pinning Service is able to access the missing DLL so that the issue can be resolved.

It is usually due to faulty RAM modules or corrupted or outdated device drivers. You need to resolve this problem in one way or another, as access to data can be permanently lost if you don’t do so. Users often associate this problem with updating Windows or moving from an older version to an older version.

This is the most efficient way, but it’s also the hardest. Here are three solutions to help you resolve this issue.

Repairing the Intel Optane Explorer extension

  1. You can run the programs and functions by opening the Run dialog box, typing Appwiz.cpl in the text box, and clicking OK.
  2. The Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions program should be in the list of programs.
  3. You can repair it by right-clicking on it and selecting Repair.
  4. Your computer should be restarted once the repair has been completed.

Removing the driver

Try this solution if your problem hasn’t been solved by the first one:

  1. Start Device Manager. Again, you can do this by opening the Run dialog box, typing devmgmt.msc into the textbox, and clicking OK.
  2. You need to expand the Software Components block from the list of device names.
  3. Uninstall Device can be selected from the context menu when right-clicking the Intel Pinning Shell Extensions window.
  4. Click the Uninstall button on the Uninstall dialog box. When the dialog box appears, check the Uninstall driver for this device box.
  5. Restart your computer once it has completed the process.

Uninstalling the Intel Optane Explorer extension

It may be necessary to restart your computer – don’t do that if you’ve tried all other options. Uninstall the Intel Optane Explorer extension. Follow solution 1 until you get to step 3. Instead of clicking the “Fix” option, select “Uninstall”.

Close the dialog box instead and select your programs. Find anything related to Intel Optane in the list and uninstall it. The Intel Optane acceleration on your computer may be disabled by this procedure. In order to enable it again, you will need to download drivers and software from Dell or Intel (depending on your PC manufacturer).

In Windows 10, you can resolve the Intel Optane memory connector error by disabling the Intel Optane module from your computer’s BIOS settings prior to the next Windows update.
